Inclusive education has proven to have benefits for people with learning disabilities and varied other developmental disabilites.  “Inclusion” does not only indicate the placement of a student with disabilities in a general  classroom setting but it also results in the accomodation and supports addressing the special student with  individual needs. For that population there is an opportunity to flourish with such supports.  The inclusive model promotes the learning of special needs students and regular ed students alike.

Differentiated Instruction Increases Student Engagement

As we experience in education no two learners are alike, so inclusive schools place great emphasis on creating the right opportunities and being assessed in a variety of different ways.  Teachers in these types of classroom settings consider material taught in different modalities i.e. visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc. when designing instruction.  This in and of itself is a great asset that facilitates optimal learning.

Children Learn Important Academic Skills

In inclusive classrooms, children with and without disabilities learn to read, write and do math and english. With higher expectations followed by good instruction children with disabilities learn important academic skills.  These much needed skills assists students in being able to succeed in higher grades.

All Children Learn By Being Together

Because the aim of inclusive classrooms is that all children learn everyone benefits in the class.  Children learn at their own pace in a nurturing learning environment.  They also benefit from seeing the diversity this type of school model carries.

Behavioral Supports Reinforce a Positive Learning Environment for All

Positive behavioral support implementation is imperative for ideal learning conditions in education.  Consistency is essential for the success of children with emotional and behavioral disabilities in a general educational environment.  School wide supports help to establish high expectations throughout the school community.

These are just a few key findings by the many years of research that has been put into the merits of  learning in inclusive classrooms.
